The old espresso machine is defective, the iron you no longer use is technically obsolete, and you have not played with the remote-controlled car in over 10 years – and yet these devices and appliances are still cluttering up your home. There is only one solution: let go!
A look into full drawers, kitchen cupboards, cellars and attics leaves no doubt: even though we obviously no longer have any use for many electrical and electronic appliances, we do not always discard them immediately.

When we think too much and don’t act
There may be several factors at play. All too often, we overestimate the personal value of devices and appliances that are no longer used, technically obsolete or even defective.
We want to keep the old blender as a backup in case the new one suddenly gives out. We convince ourselves that we will be able to repair the old sewing machine some day, if only we could find the spare parts on the Internet that have been out of stock for a long time. Or, perhaps, the 1980s perms will come back into fashion, and then we could try to see if the ancient drying hood in the cellar still works.
Until that time comes, the appliances lie around unused and useless in our home until we forget that we even have them.

But how does the recycling process for your old fridge, broken lamp or defective hairdryer actually work? How is it even possible to turn useless electronic waste into valuable iron, aluminium and even gold?
You get a close-up look at how it all works at our event “The fascination of eRecycling”, which takes place in Bern on 1 and 2 July 2022 and at the Olma trade fair in St. Gallen from 13 to 23 October 2022.
Virtual reality, real people and an amazing competition
Put on a 3D VR headset, beam yourself into the middle of a recycling centre and be amazed by the innovative and groundbreaking technologies. Get a close-up view of the cutting-edge machines at work and witness how, with the help of precise manual work, they remove hazardous substances and valuable raw materials are removed from old appliances.
In the accompanying exhibition, you can find out everything there is to know about the huge environmental benefit of eRecycling and learn why Switzerland can rightfully call itself the world champion in collecting electronic waste! You will also have the chance to meet the people behind SENS eRecycling.
And, last but not least, there are also fantastic prizes on offer in our competition. We can’t reveal too much, but the lucky winner will soon be able to experience “letting go” in a very enjoyable way.

This is why we recommend: let go when it is time to let go! You will be amazed at how good it feels when you finally get rid of old junk and make room for something new. It’s not without reason that SENS eRecycling was able to collect an incredible 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic appliances in the past 31 years.
Letting go is not only good for you, but also for our environment. By disposing of your electronic waste correctly and promptly at a retail store or one of the more than 600 SENS collection points, you not only ensure that toxic substances contained in appliances are removed in a way that does not harm people or the environment, you also ensure that valuable raw materials such as iron, aluminium, copper and gold can be reused. And there is a lot of them – an average of 75% of each appliance can be recycled.

Give it a go: let go and hand your worn-out electrical and electronic appliances over to eRecycling. Or, if they still work, send them to the reuse cycle. You can do this, for example, by offering them for sale in reuse stores or donating them.
