Out of sight, out of mind:
the most common hiding places for disused electrical goods
You probably own more electrical goods than you think. We’ll show you common places in your home where you might find electrical goods that you’ve long since forgotten about.
It’s always the way with electrical goods: eventually they break, or we just lose interest in them. But instead of giving them away, repairing them or chucking them out, we prefer to put them away somewhere in our home and, over time, we forget that we even owned them in the first place. Don’t believe us? Then look in the places around your home where disused electrical devices tend to end up. You won’t believe how much you find there.
Drawers
Drawers are great! These retractable storage boxes can be found in a wide range of systems and designs, and they’re perfect for keeping your home in order. But opening a drawer often reveals a scene of complete chaos – the ideal environment for disused small electrical devices to nestle away and go unnoticed for weeks, months or even years.
Kitchen cupboards and bathroom cabinets
Nothing beats well-equipped kitchens and bathrooms. With practical cupboard systems, the appliances and devices you use for cooking and personal grooming are always on hand. But even state-of-the-art kitchen units and ingenious bathroom cabinets have that bottom shelf that you can barely get into without risking a back injury, or the one up high that you struggle to reach even on your tiptoes. There, right at the back, is where disused electrical goods feel most at home.
Boxes
When the drawers and cupboards are full, you need a box. We often fill these boxes with the best intentions, as shown by labels like: “For sale”, “Throw away”, “Needs repaired”. But once the box is filled and stored away – under the bed, in the cellar or in the attic – those good intentions are forgotten as quickly as the box itself.
Cellar, attic, garage
Anyone who has their own cellar, attic or garage can count themselves lucky – they can use these receptacles to store all the things that they no longer have room for in their home. Things they need, but also things they haven’t used for years. One thing is certain: even the tidiest cellar has dark corners where disused and forgotten electrical goods are left to live out their futile existence.
Your parents’ house
If you’re certain that there’s no more room for disused electrical goods in your home, you can always count on your parents. You’re sure to find space for a box full of stuff back at the family home. Maybe it’s right next to the box that you craftily left behind when moving out, whose contents you’ve completely forgotten about.
Circular Platform – better than any hiding place
As you can see, there is no shortage of good hiding places for disused electrical goods. And even if all the stuff gathering dust in drawers, cupboards, cabinets, boxes, cellars, attics and garages doesn’t cause any direct harm, it’s not useful either – and that’s a real shame. On our Circular Platform, we show you how you can make better use of your disused electrical goods than hoarding them in some forgotten corner of your home.
